The next 16th, 17th and 18th of September 2015, the Catalonia Institute of Construction Technology-ITeC will host Lean In the Public Sector Conference 2015 – LIPS 2015, promoted by the Project Production System Laboratory from the University of Berkeley, the Lean Construction Institute and the Spanish Group for Lean Construction, and organized by ITeC, Bimetric, and Infraestructures de la Generalitat de Catalunya.

The objectives of the LIPS 2015 Conference are to spread and promote the application of Lean thinking in the construction sector. The Conference is addressed to those agents supplying construction services in the public and other sectors.

Glenn Ballard, cofounder and Lean Construction Institute’s Research Director, organized the first LIPS (Lean in the Public Sector) Conference in 2008 in Berkeley, CA, USA. The following years, cities like Washington DC, USA (2010), Sydney, Australia (2011), Tampere, Finland (2012) or Nottingham, UK (2013) hosted the event.

In these previous conferences, public organizations such as the Finnish Transport Agency, Melbourne Water or the University of California have presented projects where Lean principles have been applied.

Worldwide recognised experts and limited places

LIPS Conference 2015 will gather together some of the most worldwide recognised experts in Lean Constrution, such as Glean Ballard, from the University of California and co-founder of the Lean Construction Institute, Graeme Shaw, from Transport for London or Derek Drysdale, from Lean Construction Institute UK, among others.

Places to attend LIPS 2015 Conference are limited and registration must be made on-line in the website before the 30th of July, in a first phase, and until the 10th of September, in a second phase. Registrations until the 30th of July will have a special price, besides students and unemployed professionals.

Lean Construction: Lean principles applied to construction

Lean manufacturing or Lean production is a systematic method for the elimination of waste within a manufacturing process. Lean also takes into account waste created from overloading and waste created through unevenness in workloads.

Its most extreme application within the construction industry is the simplification of the site processes into one of assembly of components by removing work from the site and placing it into a lean factory environment.

The best world’s universities in terms of Building Project management focus their research on Lean Construction. Berkeley or Stanford, in the USA; Nottingham or Salford, in the UK, are good examples of this.
